Lemon

Lemon has an acidic composition which helps in bleaching the skin and giving it a fairer tone. Apply the juice of half a lemon and leave for a while and then wash off the face. Do not expose yourself to the sun in this while as the skin becomes extra sensitive. Also, for oily skin add fuller’s earth and rose water to lemon juice and apply this paste on the skin. Wash after some time. Alternately add olive oil, and honey to lemon juice and apply to the face for dry skin. Rinse after some time.

Coconut has bleaching properties and applying coconut water or coconut milk to the face can help in lightening the skin tone. Mix 2 tab coconut milk with an equal amount of pineapple juice and apply to the skin. Rinse when dry. Moisturise well.

Tomatoes contain vitamin C and have astringent properties to lighten the skin naturally. Apply the juice of a tomato and leave to dry. When dry apply another layer and leave for some time. Then wash off when dry. Moisturise well to prevent skin from drying. Repeat this process several times to get a lighter skin tone. You can add a few drops of lemon juice or buttermilk for better results.

Yogurt has been known for its skin lightening properties and also nourishes and moisturises the skin. It contains lactic acid that suppresses the production of melanin and also contains AHAs that exfoliate the dead skin and gives it a natural glow. Massage the face with yogurt and leave it to dry. Rinse and moisturise. You can also add some lemon juice and oatmeal to make a paste. Apply, let dry and rinse. Adding honey to yogurt is also effective in bleaching the skin.

This ayurvedic remedy contains enzymes that lighten the scars and dark circles. Its active compound called gabardine helps in lightening the skin and also controls pimples and acne. Apply the licorice root extract with a cotton ball and leave overnight. Wash the face in the morning and repeat this process often. Mix sandalwood paste, tomato juice with licorice extract to get more effective results.

Rub slices of potatoes on scars to lighten them. Also, grate a potato, add some lemon juice and tomato juice and apply it on the face. Wash after 15-20 minutes. The bleaching properties of potatoes reduce marks and lighten the skin.

Also, dry peels of oranges and grind them well. Store in an air tight container. Add milk, honey and rosewater to these peels and apply on the face. Rinse when dry.
