When you soak uncooked rice in water to speed up the cooking process, the grains release a number of nutrients in addition to starch into the water. This cloudy rice water that we usually tend to discard without realizing its beauty benefits works wonders for the skin and hair. In Japan and China, rice water is widely used in beauty regimens. This concentrated source of skin friendly nutrients, when applied to the skin nourishes the skin and improves complexion. Rice water is also good for the hair health. The protein rich rice water helps in strengthening the hair and seems to promote hair growth.
For Healthy Hair And Skin, Use Rice Water In The Following Ways.
1. Rice Water Rinse
Rinsing the hair with nutrient rich rice water adds volume and shine to the hair  . To prepare the rice water you will need:
One to two handfuls of uncooked rice
Two quarts of water
One drop of orange flower water or one any other natural fragrance of your choice
Put the uncooked rice at the center of the cheesecloth and bring together the ends and tie them. Put the cheesecloth pouch in a pot and cover it with water. Bring the water to a boil and then lower the heat and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. Allow the water to cool to room temperature. Remove the cheesecloth pouch from the pan. Add the orange flower water to the nutrient rich rice water.
Use this rice water as pre-cleansing rinse. Before shampooing your hair, thoroughly rinse your hair with the rice water. Gently massage your scalp to ease absorption of the nutrient dense water into the scalp skin. Alternatively, rice water can be used as post shampoo hair rinse. After shampooing your hair, rinse with rice water. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then rinse off with plain water.
2. Rice Water, Coconut Cream And Clay
Rice water mixed with coconut cream and cosmetic clay is an excellent beauty recipe  . It soothes the skin and leaves it soft and supple.
¼ cup uncooked rice
Two cups of hot water
¼ cup coconut cream
Three tablespoons of white clay
One tablespoon sweet almond oil
Five drops of mandarin essential oil
Three drops of ylang ylang essential oil
Three drops of lemongrass essential oil
Soak the rice in hot water at least for 30 minutes. Strain and preserve the rice water. Add white clay, coconut cream and the oils and mix them well. Blend the mixture with your bathwater and soak in it.
3. Rice Water Toner
The rice water toner helps in brightening the skin and evens out skin tone  .
½ cup rice
½ cup warm water
Three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
Put the rice in a bowl and cover it with enough water. Soak the rice in the hot water for about ten minutes or until the water turns cloudy. Drain the rice in a sieve and preserve the water. Add vinegar to the rice water and refrigerate it until cool. Dip a clean cotton ball in the cool rice water and apply it onto your face and other exposed areas.
4. Rice Water And Honey
Honey helps in keeping the skin hydrated and soft. A mixture of honey and rice water helps tighten the skin  . When applied to the under eye area, it helps in reducing eye bags.
One tablespoon of honey
One tablespoon of rice water
Mix the two ingredients and apply it to the skin. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then rinse off with plain water.
