7 Ways To Use Witch Hazel For Acne

Witch hazel is one of the best known natural remedies for acne. It is rich in tannin’s that help in reducing the excessive oiliness of the skin. 1. Witch Hazel Decoction

Witch hazel decoction is a powerful astringent for the acne prone skin. To prepare the decoction, boil 5 to 10 grams of witch hazel bark in a cup of water [1].  Strain the decoction and with clean cotton ball apply it to your face, focusing on the acne prone areas. It can be used two to three times a day.

2. Witch Hazel And Thyme

Witch hazel and thyme when combined together helps in clearing acne and fading blemishes [2]. Put two tablespoons of dried thyme in a clean bottle. Pour ¼ cup witch hazel over the herb. Shake the bottle well. Let the thyme sit in witch hazel for a few days. Strain the witch hazel through cheesecloth and discard the thyme. Pat the thyme infused witch hazel on your skin twice a day.

3. Witch Hazel And Calendula

Calendula, also known as pot marigold, is good for the acne prone skin. Homemade toner made by combining calendula petals with witch hazel is an excellent home remedy for acne [3]. Soak calendula flowers in witch hazel for a few days. Strain and remove the flowers and preserve the liquid. Apply the toner to the problem areas. Leave it on. Apply the toner twice a day.

4. Witch Hazel And Fennel Oil

Fennel seed oil is excellent for the acne prone oily skin. It is a natural antiseptic. It can be combined with witch hazel and used as soothing deep cleanser that helps in clearing out acne [4]. Combine one part fennel essential oil with 10 parts witch hazel. Apply a small amount to the skin and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes. Wash off with gentle soap and water.

5. Witch Hazel And Aspirin

The anti-inflammatory property of aspirin helps in reducing redness and swelling of breakouts. Aspirin also works as an exfoliating agent [5]. To clear the existing acne and minimize breakouts, mix aspirin with witch hazel and apply it to the affected areas. Dissolve three uncoated aspirin tablets in ½ bottle of witch hazel. Thoroughly shake the bottle before applying the mixture. With a cotton swab, apply a small amount of the mixture over clean face. Apply twice a day.

6. Witch Hazel And Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar helps in maintaining the pH balance of the skin. It is combined with witch hazel and applied to the acne prone skin to control breakouts [6]. Mix a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with 1/3-cup of witch hazel. Add 5 drops of lavender essential oil and mix well. Wipe the face with the mixture.

7. Witch Hazel, Aloe Vera And Tea Tree Oil

The antibacterial property of tea tree oil helps in improving acne. Aloe vera gel soothes and hydrates the skin [7]. To reduce acne breakouts, combine ¼ cup witch hazel with a tablespoon of aloe vera gel, 10 drops of tea tree oil and 3 drops of lavender essential oil. Dab the mixture with a cotton ball on your face. Leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes and then rinse.
