So if parents observe a dry flaky dandruff like patch on the scalp or a yellowish scale like greasy patch on the scalp of their toddler they are sure to hit the panic button. Relax your baby may be suffering from cradle cap which in medical terms is known as infantile seborrhoeic dermatitis or seborrhoeic eczema. This is mainly due to hormonal imbalance and is not contagious and settles down with time. But if you want your baby to get rid of it at the earliest then there are some simple and safe home remedies that you can try out.

The moisturizing and the antibacterial properties of coconut oil are useful in giving relief from cradle cap. Apply a small quantity of coconut oil to the scalp and massage gently. Leave it for half an hour. Wash with lukewarm water and brush the scalp with a soft brush to remove the flakes. Follow the remedy once daily.

Baking soda soaks the excess oil and helps cure cradle cap. Mix baking soda with water to form a paste .Apply the paste to the affected part .Allow it to stay for just about 45 seconds and then immediately wash it off with tepid water. Follow the remedy once daily.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is very effective but toxic and hence needs to be used carefully without letting it come in contact with the eyes, ears and mouth. Also it should not be applied directly to the baby’s scalp. Always dilute one part of tea tree oil with 10 parts of almond oil or olive oil and apply it to the scalp and rinse with lukewarm water after 10 minutes. It is better to follow the remedy under medical guidance.
