10 Effective DIY Tips To Keep Forehead Breakouts At Bay

Some people tend to have continuous breakouts on their forehead, in spite of having problem free cheeks and chin. But traditional acne remedies are not found effective in the case of forehead acne. The factors affecting forehead breakouts include diet, dandruff , hygiene etc.  However, these are probably the easiest kinds of acne to cure and can be brought under control by adopting some lifestyle changes.

Here Are Some Amazing Tips To Deal With Forehead Breakouts

1. Cleansing

Lack of hygiene plays a vital role in forehead acne breakouts. Clogged pores will create the optimal environment for sebum build up and subsequent bacterial infection, leading to forehead acne. Cleansing your face and forehead helps to remove excess oil and to get rid of harmful bacteria. Wash your face twice daily with a mild face wash with low pH value. Also cleanse your face every time you return home from outdoors or after a workout.

2. Steaming

Steaming is an effective method to open up clogged pores in the forehead. This could be done either at home or by a professional beautician. For this, first wash your face clean of any makeup residue. In a pot, add a few slices of lemon and 5 drops of tea tree oil. Once the water starts boiling, use a towel to cover your head and to direct the steam to your forehead, taking care not to burn your skin. Steaming should be followed with a face pack and an oil free moisturizer. Steaming should be done only once a month, as too much steaming is harmful for acne prone skin.

3. Dandruff Removal

The presence of dandruff in your scalp is a common cause of forehead breakouts. This can be healed easily by using dandruff removal shampoos at least once a week. When the scalp becomes clean, the intensity of forehead acne will reduce considerably.

4. Switch Hair Care Products

Sometimes the serums, mousses or sprays that we use on our hair can lead to an outbreak of forehead acne. Check the ingredients in your hair care products and stop using the ones with comedogenic ingredients. Try changing your hair care products and choose the one most suitable for you. Do not use sulphate based shampoos as they have a tendency to clog the pores.

5. Pillow Cases

Sanitize anything and everything that comes into direct contact with your forehead. Your pillow case is one of the common breeding grounds for bacteria and every night you sleep with your face down, you become more and more susceptible to acne attack. So make sure to change your pillow case every alternate day and wash it with antibacterial liquid.

6. Head Gears

Head gears like hats and helmets are one of the common causes of outbreak of forehead acne. Make sure to wash your hats and dry them inside out in sunlight. While wearing helmets, you should first cover your head with a clean scarf and then wear helmet on top so that dirt and sweat will not accumulate on its inside. You can also wipe the inside lining with a cotton pad soaked with a sanitizer to remove bacteria and grime.

People with forehead acne will be benefited by avoiding makeup altogether. If you must use makeup, choose mild ones which are oil free and non- comedogenic. Make sure to remove makeup thoroughly with a cleanser, every night before going to bed.

8. Diet And Zinc Deficiency

Forehead breakouts are supposed to happen due to irregularities in your digestive system. Take a glass of water with the juice of one freshly squeezed lemon (small) as soon as you get up in the morning, in an empty stomach. Keep your body hydrated by drinking 10 to 12 glasses of water a day. Chew your food well before swallowing. Check if your body has zinc deficiency; if so, take zinc supplements or include lamb, grass fed beef, chicken, chickpeas, yogurt, cashew nuts, etc. in your diet.

9. Exfoliating Mask

Dead epithelial cells can also bring about forehead acne. But for people susceptible to acne outbreaks, much care should be taken while exfoliating, so as not to aggravate the condition further. The following face mask is ideal for exfoliating and deep cleansing the skin gently. In a bowl, mix two tablespoons of bentonite clay, half teaspoon of wild turmeric and one teaspoon of honey. Add enough curd to make it a smooth paste. Apply it all over the face, avoiding the eyes, lips and nostrils and allow the face pack to dry. Once it dries, wash it off with warm water and pat dry. Repeat it twice a week for best results.

10. Greasy Hair

Some people tend to have naturally oily hair and scalp. Others apply excessive oils and greasy creams on their hair. This bacteria-laden oil from hair comes into direct contact with our forehead when we sweat or when our hair falls over the forehead. To avoid such forehead breakouts, cleanse hair and scalp with a mild herbal shampoo every day. Instead of bangs and fringes, go for pony tails and pulled-back or short hairstyles.
