Acne is not the only skin problem troubling us. Melasma is a skin condition in which dark spots appear on the chin, forehead, cheeks and upper lip area. It is the case of hyperpigmentation which occurs due to an imbalance of estrogen and progesterone hormones which leads to an overproduction of melanin. Sunlight, pregnancy, hormonal imbalances all lead to this problems. A number of natural remedies are available at home to treat this condition.
The Natural Remedies Are:
Apply slices of cucumber or its juice on the dark spots and leave it for 30 minutes. Rinse off and moisturise. It has to be applied regularly to see good results and it will gradually lighten the skin and remove marks.
Rich in vitamin C, lemon has acidic properties to remove tan and spots. Apply the juice of 1 lemon with 1 tab honey mixed in it. Leave on the affected area for 10 minutes. Cover with a damp towel for better results. The skin regains its natural color with regular use of this method. Sensitive skin types should be cautious in applying this mix and do not leave this mask on the skin for more than 20 minutes.
Mash some oatmeal and mix honey to form a paste and apply it on the skin. Leave this mask for half an hour and rinse to remove all the dead cells and diminish marks from the skin.
Massage castor oil on the dark spots and leave it overnight for effective results. Wash off in the morning. Apply regularly to do away with spots and marks on the skin.
Add some rose water to sandalwood powder to make a paste. This should be applied on the skin and left for 20 minutes.
Mix turmeric, sandalwood, lemon juice and milk to make a face mask. This mask should be applied and kept for half an hour. All these kitchen components have skin lightening powers and they get enhanced when mixed together.
Apply onion juice mixed with equal amounts of apple cider vinegar. Dab it on the skin with a cotton ball and leave it for some time till it dries up and then rinse. Alternatively crush some onion seeds and apply to the marks and wash once it dries up.
This should be massaged onto the pigmentation spots to lighten them. It has to be applied on a daily basis to get effective results.
Mix 2 tab honey to the pulp of an Avocado. This paste has to be applied to the face and left for 20 minutes. The healing properties of avocado and bleaching effects of honey help in lightening the blemishes.
Grind 2-3 almonds(preferably soaked overnight) and 1 tsp of both, milk and honey to it. Apply this mask and leave for 10-15 minutes. Pigmentation subsides gradually with regular application.
Aloe vera contains compounds that lightens the brown spots and slowly fades them. Fresh aloe gel should be applied on the marks and left overnight. Then washed in the morning followed by moisturization. We can also mix honey to it and wash off after 15 minutes.
Mix camphor powder to the juice of fresh basil leaves.Apply and wash off after it dries. Moisturise.
This is rich in vitamin C and lightens marks and blemishes. Cut it into slices and rub on the marks or mix 2 tbsp horseradish powder to 1 cup sour cream and apply to the affected area. Rinse after half an hour.
The juice of fresh mint leaves are applied on blemishes and discolored skin to help it regain its original color.It acts as an astringent too.
Lavender oil when mixed with equal amounts of tea tree oil and dabbed on the skin helps in reducing spots. It should be applied 3-4 times a day.
Coconut milk has lactic acid which greatly helps in removing skin marks and treating melasma. It can be combined with turmeric, lemon juice and rosewater to make a paste and apply on the blemishes. Not only does this mask lighten marks but will also leave the skin sparkling clean and soft.
