1. Baking Soda
Though you might be aware of baking soda and its uses, not many people know that one of its uses can be helpful in curbing the cockroaches menace. Baking soda damages the exoskeleton of the insects and it effectively hampers their digestive system. As a result, the cockroaches die after some time and repeated usage can control the nuisance to a great extent. Use them with sugar to attract the cockroaches. Mix 3 parts of baking soda to one part of sugar. Sprinkle some water on them and place it in the area where you usually see them. Let it on overnight and in the morning you will find dead cockroaches along the region. For an even better result mix a part of borax to the mixture. It is recommended to use gloves when you use this procedure. Repeat this for a week to curb their growth completely.
Turmeric can act as a natural insect repellent. In many cultures, even today turmeric is applied to the doors to ward off insects and pests. They are nontoxic and can be one of the best alternatives to the chemical based repellents. Take a spray bottle and fill it with water. Now add 2 teaspoons of turmeric to it. In addition to that drop in two camphor tablets to it. Close it and shake well. Now spray the contents in the areas which are exposed to the cockroaches. 3. Lime Essential Oil
Lime Essential Oil – especially the extracts derived from the makrut lime can work as a natural repellent against cockroaches. They are especially beneficial in curbing the menace of the German cockroaches. Take a small bowl of water and add in 10 drops of markut lime essential oil. Now add about 6 to 7 drops of tea tree oil to the mix and stir well. Transfer the contents to a spray bottle. If required, drop in a camphor tablet to it. Now, spray the solution in the corners and the crevices where you notice the cockroach infestation. Repeat daily for best results.
4. Coffee Grounds
The aroma of coffee is known to attract cockroaches from their hideouts. They fall prey to this tactic and this is one of the most effective ways to get rid of the cockroach infestation. Though coffee doesn’t necessarily kill them, this is one the easiest methods to trap them. Take a few glass jars and fill them with water to half their levels. Now wet some coffee grounds and put them inside a few plastic cups. Place these cups in the jar and leave them in the corners. The cockroaches would enter the jar lured by the smell of the coffee and they would get trapped in the water. In the morning discard them. Use them for a week and get to see the results.
Catnip herb is one of the best natural repellents against cockroaches. You can either use them with their leaves or use catnip essential oil for their repellency properties. Take some catnip leaves and dry them for a day or two. Then take a small porous bag and drop in these leaves and tie them in the places where you see cockroach activity. You can also try out this method. Boil a cup of water and add in a few drops of catnip essential oil or dried out catnip leaves. Strain the content and transfer to a spray bottle once it cools. Use the spray in the areas where you find their activity. Use hem continuously for curbing the cockroach hazard.
