DIY Cayenne Infused Muscle Rub

There are numerous times when you have gulped down a painkiller to get relief from aching muscles and joints or have spent several bucks to buy chemical loaded ointments with the hope of finding quick relief. Instead of exposing your painful body to harmful chemicals it would definitely be more sensible to make your own muscle rub using readily available natural ingredients in your kitchen. One such marvelous muscle rub is Cayenne Infused Muscle Rub which is found to be effective not only for muscle and joint pains it can also be used on menstrual cramps, psoriasis and even nerve pains. Given below are two methods of making this rub at home.

Method 1

Ingredients

2 tablespoons of Cayenne pepper powder (Capsaicin in the pepper helps reduce pain, improves circulation and helps in healing), 2 teaspoon of ginger powder (The anti inflammatory property of ginger help in reducing pain), 10 drops of peppermint oil, 5 drops of clove oil and 10 drops of eucalyptus oil (these essential oils help in reducing pain and inflammation and act as muscle relaxants.).The base of the muscle rub is made by using one cup of cocoa butter and half cup coconut oil.

Take the 1/4 cup coconut oil, cayenne pepper and ginger powder in a container. Place the container in a double boiler and warm gently. Then take the container off from the double boiler and let it rest for some time .Cool the mixture in the refrigerator. Filter the mixture through a muslin cloth and add the remaining coconut oil, grated cocoa butter and the essential oils and mix using an electric blender at the highest speed. If you wish to reduce the greasiness of the muscle rub then add one teaspoon of cornstarch and mix well. This is optional. Your Cayenne Infused Muscle Rub is ready .Store it in an amber colored bottle.

Method 2

Ingredients

3 tablespoons of cayenne pepper powder, one teaspoon of turmeric powder (turmeric too has healing and anti inflammatory properties), one cup of almond oil and half cup of grated beeswax.

Take the cayenne pepper powder, turmeric powder and almond oil in a container and heat it on a double boiler for about 5 minutes. Now add the grated beeswax and again heat it on the double boiler for about 10 minutes. Take off the flame and cool the mixture in a refrigerator for 10 minutes. Remove from the refrigerator and mix well .Again cool for 10 minutes and again whisk the mixture well. Your Cayenne Infused Muscle Rub is ready Store it in an amber colored bottle.

Procedure

Since the muscle rub does not contain any water, its shelf life is more. It should however be preferably used within two weeks. Also if you are allergic to Capsaicin then it is best not to use the rub. Also it should be noted that the muscle rub should not be used for children under 2 years and the use in older children should also be done with proper precautions and under the guidance of a pediatrician.Pregnant and lactating women should avoid using the rub. So next time if you want relief from painful and sore muscles do try out this amazing homemade rub.
