DIY- Lotion For Leg Cramps And Growing Pains

Leg cramps and body pain is a problem that we and our family face on a regular basis. Instead of gulping down pain killers it always makes sense to rub in lotions and creams which will give relief from the pains and cramps. There are several lotions available in the market which can be used to get relief from the pain. But they are expensive and can have substances which can lead to skin irritations and inflammation and can cause skin infections. It is therefore always a better option to prepare lotions for leg cramps and pains at home using readily available natural ingredients. One such method involves the use of arnica and comfrey infused oil along with magnesium oil and aloe vera gel.

Recipe For Preparation Of Lotion For Leg Cramps And Pain Using Arnica And Comfrey Infused Oil, Magnesium Oil And Aloe Vera:

Arnica herb is useful in giving relied from inflammations and also eases down joint pains. Comfrey leaves are also known to have medicinal value and are efficient pain killers. Olive oil is used as carrier oil and has healing and moisturizing properties. Magnesium oil too gives relief from body aches but can cause skin irritations hence aloe vera gel is added to this lotion in order to cut down the side effect of magnesium oil. Besides aloe vera gel acts as a moisturizer and also has anti microbial properties and protects the skin against infections. The peppermint and lavender essential oils also give relief from muscle pain and also impart a nice fragrance to the lotion.

Recipe For Preparation Of Lotion For Leg Cramps And Pain

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons of dried comfrey leaves,2 tablespoons of dried arnica flowers,4 tablespoons of olive oil, half tablespoon of beeswax, half tablespoon of stearic acid which acts as a thickening agent,1 ½ tablespoon of Shea butter,1 ½ tablespoon of magnesium oil ,1 ½ tablespoon of aloe vera gel.

Procedure:

In a jar add the arnica flowers and the comfrey leaves and cover them with the olive oil. Mix the ingredients and place this bowl on a double boiler and heat the oil mixture for almost 2 to 3 hours on a low flame. Precaution must be taken to see that the water in the double boiler does not evaporate and the oil mixture does not char. Now remove the bowl from the double boiler and strain the mixture. The infused oil is now ready.

Add The Arnica Flowers And The Comfrey Leaves

Now take 3 tablespoons of the infused oil, beeswax and the stearic acid in a bowl and mix well. Place the bowl containing the mixture on a double boiler. Heat the mixture on a low flame till the beeswax has melted completely. Now put off the flame and at this stage add the Shea butter and mix well. Remove the bowl containing the mixture from the double boiler and let it come to body temperature. In the meanwhile mix the magnesium oil and aloe vera gel in another bowl and place it in the same double boiler that was used for the beeswax but it should not be on the burner. This step will ensure that the magnesium oil and aloe vera gel are warmed up just to about body temperature.

Heat The Oil Mixture For Almost 2 To 3 Hours On A Low Flame

Now pour the magnesium oil and aloe vera gel mixture in the mixture containing the infused oil, beeswax and Shea butter. Beat with a hand mixer. Now add the peppermint and lavender essential oils and mix well. Beat using the hand mixer for three more minutes. The lotion is ready. Pour it in glass bottles and store it for future use. In order to cut sown the oiliness you can add a little arrowroot powder. The shelf life of this lotion is about two weeks and it needs to be stored in the refrigerator.
