Head lice are a very common problem faced by parents of young children. They spread easily from one infected person to another. Sharing clothes, brush, pillows etc promotes the spread of head lice. Having head lice can be revolting as you can see these creepy crawlies crawling on your head. It also causes lot of itching as they suck on your blood. Though it might prove to be difficult to get rid of these pests, it is not an impossible task. Here are some solutions which can be tried at home for effective removal of head lice.
Here Are Some DIY Remedies To Get Rid Of Head Lice:
Apply baby oil on your scalp thoroughly. Leave it for 30-40 minutes. The baby oil will make it difficult for the head lice to move. Use a fine toothed comb to gently but firmly comb your hair. Make sure that the bristles touch the scalp. The lice will fall from the head. They will also stick on the comb.
Grind 8-10 cloves of garlic into a paste. Add 3 spoon of lemon juice to the garlic paste and mix well. Apply on the scalp and leave it for few minutes. Rinse your hair thoroughly with shampoo using hot water. The strong fragrance of garlic will help to eliminate the lice.
Salt And Vinegar
Mix salt with white vinegar in equal parts. Apply this mixture on your scalp. Cover your head with a plastic shower cap. Leave it on for 30 minutes. Wash your hair thoroughly.
Take a mouth wash eg Listerine. Pour it into a spray bottle. Spray the mouth wash on your scalp such that it gets wet completely. Cover your head with a plastic shower cap and leave it for 2 hours. Wash your hair well until the oily feeling is gone. Repeat the process every month to keep your head lice free.
Take a cup of mayonnaise and mix few drops of coconut oil to it. Apply this mixture on your scalp. Cover your head with a plastic shower cap. Leave it overnight. Next day was off the mayonnaise using shampoo. Do not pour water on your head before shampooing. You have to use extra shampoo to get rid of the mayonnaise.
After every treatment mentioned here, wash your hair thoroughly. De-tangle your wet hair using a wide toothed comb. Comb your hair from top of your scalp to the nape of your neck using a fine too fine toothed comb to get rid of the lice. Check the nape of your neck and the comb for any lice that you might have missed.
